On Friday for one of my SJSU Campus Events I went to a concert at the SJSU Event Center with a bunch of my friends. We wen't to see one of my favorite bands, 'Brand New' and The band Manchester Orchestra who opened for them. I had never heard the opening band before, but they were really good. Brand New was also really good and it was a great show.
This weekend for one of my campus events I went to a concert at the SJSU Event Center with a couple of my friends. We saw the bands Mastodon and Dethklok, both metal bands. There were also two opening bands, but we missed the first one and the second band was terrible. The actual bands were really good though and it was a lot of fun.

One great thing about the muse classes is the peer mentors. Having a peer mentor is a new experience to me and I really like having one. My peer mentor Anna has been a huge help this year. Between making it clear what we are being asked to do on certain assignments and correcting the syllabus with things like due date, she has saved me many times already. What I like the most about the peer mentors is how they work on two levels; they work along side the professor so they have a solid understanding of the course and the assignments and everything, but they are also a student just like us so they can see things from our perspective and act as a liaison between us and the professor making everything alot more transparent.

The 'Know Yourself' in Chapter 5 dealt with critical thinking styles. We used a self assessment involving various questions and ranking them based on how how much they described us. While I didn't have a single dominant style I had a strong preference for the strategist style which makes sense as I like to plan things out. The style scored the lowest in was the consumer style with the information avoider style falling in between.

One part of the 'Know Yourself' section of chapter 4 had a self assessment aimed at determining ones Sensory Preference, or whether they learn best by seeing, hearing, or doing something. Surprisingly my highest preference was visual with auditory second, the opposite of what I expected. This is because I really like music and also I'm good at remembering things people say rather than visual details about them. Also when it comes to music I can read sheet music but find it easier to just listen to something rather than seeing it. This was a surprising discovery.

The journal section of chapter 9 had a part about reflecting on a bad speech I heard. The only only speech I can think of that I heard and though was bad was the speech by Megan Baker at orientation. I don't remember what the speech was about or what specifically was bad about it, but I remember thinking that for being the ASB President or whatever she is, she didn't seem to have that great of communication skills, at least as far as giving speeches. I guess the fact that I don't remember what it was about is another sign it wasn't good because I would have remembered the point of a good speech.

The 'Know Yourself' assignment in chapter 9 of my guide to college success had me fill out a chart involving how I do in certain aspects of writing assignments. The results were nothing new to me as after I wrote the paper which was used to fill in the chart it was really clear what my weaknesses were. Basically while I have good grammar and diction, and I have a clear idea of what it is I want to say and what I'm being asked, when it comes to actually writing it out I have trouble when it comes to organizing and structuring my paper so it's clear. My professor talked to me and said what I should do is write down my main points as I'm thinking of what to write instead of just thinking about it in my head so that I actually see it on paper and that might help me see how to structure everything.
